Case Study – Legal

Karp, Frosh, Lapidus, Wigodsky & Norwind, P.A

Karp, Frosh, Lapidus, Wigodsky & Norwind, P.A. is a civil litigation firm with offices in Washington, DC, northern Virginia, and Maryland.  The Firm has received the highest possible rating from Martindale Hubbell – the nation’s preeminent attorney rating service.  The firm specializes in commercial litigation, business law, estate planning, employment law, and domestic relations and family law.  Ronald Karp, the Firm’s managing partner, is the past president of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, DC, and the recipient of the Trial Lawyer of the Year Award.

Karp Frosh was faced with the same document management and case preparation challenges as most law firms.  Cases are paper intensive and the traditional way of sharing information and collaborating on case documents is too expensive and time consuming and involves photo-copying and shipping.  A typical case, for example, could cost an attorney between $7,000-$30,000 simply for duplicating and sending documents to expert witnesses and other attorneys.  Further, sorting through several binders of depositions and medical records for a specific document is very time consuming.  And lastly, the attorneys are looking for a better way to present demonstrable evidence during trial.

Modern Image provided Karp Frosh with fast, safe, and affordable document scanning services which enabled case files to be made available to team members in seconds instead of days.  Coupled with a document search and retrieval system with specialized search functionality for lawyers, the attorneys can find crucial information in moments with accuracy and efficiency impossible to duplicate with manual document review.

Modern Image has trained Karp Frosh attorneys on how to use common tools like Adobe Acrobat for collaboration during the case preparation phase, and then to better present documents during trial.  For example, Modern Image can “clean up” poor quality documents so that text becomes readable to the jury.

“I have been dealing with Andy Reiman for years now in getting advice as to how to organize and retrieve documents” says Ronald Karp.   “He has been masterful in coming up with solutions and just the right software to get the job done.  Add to all of that his fast response time and impeccable integrity and I give him my highest recommendation.”

Andy Reiman, president of Modern Image comments: “Modern Image provides solutions for the legal community based on our extensive experience with law firms, in-house counsel, and government lawyers.  It is great working with Ron Karp because he has a vision for the way the Firm should manage documents, and through scanning and document management, he has already realized significant savings for the Firm, and enhanced their ability to win cases.”
